Has there been a classic comic strip character more well-known, yet less seen than Buster Brown? Far more famous for lending his image to shoe advertisements than for his actual strip, Buster Brown is a delightful piece of work, a middle-class scamp with an unquenchable penchant for mischief, and he deserves better than his lot.
Created by R.F. Outcault, the man some credit with inventing modern comics with his seminal creation Yellow Kid, I really can’t fathom why Buster Brown isn’t held in higher regard by the comic cognoscenti. It’s beautifully drawn, frequently hilarious, and it’s got a talking dog, for Pete’s sake! What more do you need? Oh, yeah, Buster’s mom is totally hot.
But nevermind the reason it’s been heretofore so sadly slept-upon, your kind curators of classic comic capers at Barnacle Press have the goods for you. I hope you enjoy them.
