According to The World Encyclopedia of Comics, A.C. Fera introduced Elmer Tuggle to the world way back on May 6, 1916. Just Boy ran under the direction of its creator mostly as a Sunday strip until Fera passed away in 1925. Charles "Doc" Winner took over on October 4 of that year, and the title changed to Elmer. Winner carried the strip forward until his own death; the strip closing up for good on December 30, 1956.
