Lucy and Sophie Say Goodbye is a strip whose brief run belies the intense interest that it's generated to the public. This is largely due to the subject matter--two ladies who can't stop their cooing and kissing as they depart, regardless of the chaos it creates around them--but also owing to the imaginative layouts for its time and to the anonymous nature of its creator.
It almost makes me sad to say that one of these reasons has been obviated, as the creator has been identified. I love a comics mystery, and there's something bittersweet about seeing it solved. On the other hand, it's pretty darn cool that he's been identified and can take his place in the pantheon of comics pioneers!
For the story of how this mystery was solved, see this thread on the Barnacle Press Twitter feed: Mystery Solved!
