Mr. Wad is the creation of E.W. Gale and ran for a number of years. At one point in 1918 it was cancelled and later resurrected for a short run under the care of an unsigned artist (drawing suggestions from the readers, no less). The initial strip presented here was part of the debut of the L.A. Times' Pink Sheet, an entertainment/sports section of the paper. It's possible Mr. Wad was kicking around before he showed his face in the Pink Sheet, but I haven't found any evidence to support this. In fact, I haven't found much of anything at all about the strip. Gale's name pops up as a contributor to magazines of the time period, but I have yet to find him or Mr. Wad mentioned in any comics texts. It's certainly possible that I haven't dug deep enough yet. Seems more than a little odd that I would be the only one to stumble across this forgotten strip in the last 100 years or so...
If you have any information regarding the strip, by all means share!
